2-Jun-2025: Honey, Garlic and more, Wood chips, Pressure washing

Yummy Honey

The hive in the veg field is doing especially well, and Marisa had to add another super recently. Over the past two weeks she has removed two frames (out of 12 per super) and we have fresh honey and comb. It's delicious!

Garlic, Lettuce, Beans

The scapes came up and Marisa cut them about a week ago. So tasty sauted with a bit of butter, or mixed into a soup or stir fry. A couple rows of Garlic were also ready to pull so she harvested those, and it looks like most of the garlic will be ready to come out of the ground in another week or two.

A good amount of lettuce was ready as well and washed in the newly rebuilt dairy kitchen.

And the beans are coming along nicely - lots of sun and periodic watering since we've had so little rain.

And the Feijoa Sellowian is blooming in the poly tunnel.

Tilled Row and Wood Chips

We planted a cover crop in one of the rows near the garlic, but nothing came up and the ground parched from so little rain. A quick pass of the rotavator and then a think layer of compost (not shown) and it will be ready for planting soon.

We also brought more wood chips in to the centre aisle of the veg field to keep weeds down and level the ground

Goat Shed Cleanup

We have been "storing" rocks taken from the field and misc plants in front of this little concrete shed for a while, and it needed cleaning up. We call it the goat shed, but don't really know what kind of animals were kept there. It has 8 small pens inside and now is a storage area of wood. So the rocks and lumps of concrete left over from one of the poly tunnel builds were moved to the slurry pit. Then a couple hours of pressure washing and it looks pretty nice.
